who we are.

Our Goal is "Art Everywhere."

What gives a city, county or community a sense of place? What makes it stand out as somewhere you’d want to visit … explore … or call home?

A community with a “sense of place” is inviting.

It’s unique.

It’s vibrant.

It feeds the soul.

Art found in public places has a big impact on creating environments that are stimulating and welcoming. Hall County and its cities have taken on the mission to become just that kind of community by creating intentional and interactive art in spaces for all to enjoy.

A little bit of history

Vision 2030, sponsored by the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, is a community project to provide a common vision for what Gainesville and Hall County would look like in the year 2030.

Since great communities have great art, the Public Art Committee was formed to create opportunities for artists in conjunction with the growth of the community.  Great communities have great public art. Public art plays a significant role in helping create a vital and well-rounded community. It can express a community’s values, enhance its environment, instill a heightened sense of place, and highlight its cultural heritage. Hall County and its cities in partnership with the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce and Vision 2030 are committed to enhancing the lives of every citizen and the community’s long-term economic vitality through public art.

How will we do it?

  • Engage and enhance our public spaces;

  • Provide greater public connectivity to the arts;

  • Promote awareness and understanding of visual art as it relates to the public environment;

  • Reflect a wide range of multi-cultural expressions;

  • Create an environment for the creative industries to thrive;

  • Promote tourism and arts/cultural affairs;

  • Advance inventive urban design as a component of community goals;

  • Foster innovation and promote artistic excellence; and

  • Encourage public and private investment in art.

What we’ve accomplished since May 2009:

  • Created inventory, map and walking tours of existing Public Art

  • Installed 172 NEW public art works since January 2013 (started with 75)

  • Raised funding for public art works through the private contributions of individuals and businesses

  • Connecting artists with opportunity, the PAC has an investment of $916,000 in value

  • Partnered with other public and private entities: Gainesville Connection, Gainesville Parks and Recreation, Hall County Government, City of Gainesville, Quinlan Visual Arts Center, The Arts Council, Brenau University, Lake Lanier Olympic Venue

  • Launched a NEW public art awareness/spring fundraising initiative: block pARTy, with the inaugural event in May 2018 raising $15,000 for the purchase of new public art

  • Created NEW (and ongoing) art programs such as:

    • Free Range Art Project,

    • GOGO Art,

    • BURDS (Brenau Urban Rural Discoveries),

    • Bird Bike Racks,

    • Play Me Now pianos

    • Protective Angels with pricing for the general public to underwrite the implementation of “public art à la carte”

And we are only gaining momentum. Our goal? Public Art Everywhere.
